Search has changed: SEO in the age of answers

When search engines answer instead of listing, visibility comes from being the source worth citing.

For twenty years, search engine optimisation meant winning a list. Increasingly, there is no list — there is an answer, assembled from sources.

Be the primary source

Summarised answers cite the material that is specific, structured and original. Original research, real numbers and clear definitions get quoted; restated commentary does not.

Structure is the new keyword density

Clean headings, schema markup, factual consistency across pages and unambiguous entity naming let a machine understand what a page asserts, not just what it mentions.

Measure differently

Impressions and clicks still matter, but so does citation: where your organisation appears inside generated answers, and which questions trigger it.

Publish for people, structure for machines

The two goals are no longer in tension. Writing plainly for a reader and marking it up precisely for a crawler produce the same page.
